Slipper Slip Clutches

The Slipper Clutch is a standard-duty mechanical slip clutch for intermittent, continuous or overload torque control. It contains brass plates interfaced with long-life friction material and soft springs maintain pressure on the friction plates, ensuring constant torque.

  • Can accommodate shaft sizes up to 1 inch
  • Torque setting can be fixed/preset or adjustable
  • Several sizes to meet torque needs up to 500 lb-in

Torque Settings & Capacity

  • Fixed torque settings are denoted ‘F’ and adjustable torque settings are denoted ‘A’ in the configured part number
  • The torque capacities provided in the specification tables are based on continuous operation at 50 RPM and are only a guideline
    • Torque, RPM, duty cycle and life are interdependent – a reduction of any of these will allow an increase in any other variable
    • For example: running at 25 RPM will allow twice the torque, or running for only 10% of the cycle will allow higher RPM, etc.)
    • The limit is based on heat build-up measured in watts per:
      Watts = Torque (inch pounds) x RPM x Duty Cycle* x 0.011.
      *(% of the time the clutch is slipping, expressed as a decimal. For example, 0.5 = 50% of the time the clutch is slipping)
    • Please contact us to discuss high torque, high RPM, and rapid cycling applications

Note: Torque control in one direction can be achieved by combining with our overrunning (one-way) clutch

Part Number Configuration

Example:

(1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6)
(S) (A) (O) (32) (10) (10)

Written as: SAO32-10-10

1. Type of Clutch

S = Multi-plate Slipper
P = Single-plate Slipper

2. Torque Setting

A = Adjustable torque
F = Factory preset (fixed) torque. Indicate torque value as T= ___

3. Installation Type

S = Shaft to shaft
O = Shaft-through for mounting to pulley, gear, sprocket, etc.

4. Outer Diameter

Generally represented in sixteenths of an inch

5. Cartridge Bore Size

Represented in sixteenths of an inch (4/16″ = 1/4″). For metric, add MM after bore size (e.g. SAS24-4MM)

6. Housing Bore Size

Represented in sixteenths of an inch (6/16″ = 3/8″). For metric, add MM after bore size (e.g. SAS24-4MM-6MM)

Bore diameters (dimension ‘B’) other than the standard sizes shown are available up to the maximum diameter shown, sized in inches or millimeters
